Track how respondents interact with your survey, measure results and optimize custom events with Google Analytics.
IMPORTANT: This integration is DEPRECATED. As of July 1, 2023, Google sunsetted Google Analytics (UA). If you’re currently using Universal Analytics, we recommend that you set up and start using our new Google Analytics 4 integration.
For users who have Google Analytics 360 properties, we will continue to support the existing integration until July 2024.
💪 When to use it
- With this integration, you can send events to your Google Analytics account when a user takes an action on your survey.
🏠 Where it lives
- Go to Configure and navigate to the Integrations tab.
🔨 How it works
- Click + Add on the Google Analytics integration.
- Name your event.
This is the first step in allowing you to locate this data on Google Analytics. Make sure to use a name that will help you to easily identify the action on Google Analytics.
Example event names might include:
-
- Contact_Form_Submitted could be the name of the event that sends when a respondent leaves their contact form details.
- Survey_Viewed could be the name of the event that sends when a respondent views your welcome page.
- Add your Google Analytics Tracking ID (it should look like: UA-XXXXX-Y or UA-XXXXX-YY) to the integration.
If you have an account level tracking ID, it will automatically be added to your integration.
- Toggle on the Action that you would like to trigger the event to send to your Google Analytics account.
Pro-tip: Add multiple GA events as separate GA integrations in Segmanta, each with a unique event name so that you can track and segment different actions.
In most cases, you will only want to toggle on one action for each event to avoid confusion in the data you see appearing in GA.
After you have completed the steps above, test your survey using the GA Debugger available on Google Chrome to ensure that the events that you want to be sent are sent when and as you expect them to.
Important: If you add your Google Analytics tracking ID to a Survey, you are responsible for the data collected by Google Analytics. Passing PII data such as name or email address breaches Google’s Terms of Service.
