Marking a Survey Question Required

Make a survey question optional for a respondent

By default, all questions are marked as Required. This means that a respondent must select an answer choice before proceeding to the next question and moving forward with the survey.

Depending on your survey and the importance of a certain question to your analysis, you may want to make a survey question optional. Marking a survey question optional allows respondents to take the survey at a quicker pace as they will not be required to provide an answer choice for every survey question.

To make a survey question optional, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Survey Editor and select a survey question. 
2. Then, navigate to the Settings tab on the top toolbar.
3. Toggle on the Required setting.

Expert Tip! The * icon indicates that a survey question has been marked 'required'.
